For those of you who follow Defence of the Realm you may have recently seen my article on the A.E.3 Ram project intended to develop a “contact fighter” for use in supporting the infantry. Essentially this was a precursor to the modern day close air support aircraft. The resulting aircraft suffered from a number of technical problems which meant it never entered production.
You can read the full article by clicking here.
A.E.3 Ram II prototype.
What if…Belgium acquired the aircraft. Here it is in the markings of 2 Escadrille.
What if…The “White Russians” used the type during the Russian Civil War in 1919.

Some of these early birds look like half made kits. Nice to see the ‘what if’ variations though.

When I was in the ATC i volunteered for the parachute course but didn’t get it. I did do a gliding scholarship though in Viking T.1s

Did you get through it? Does that mean you could/can fly a glider?

I did complete it but it was coming to the end of my time in the ATC and it was only valid within the corps so I can’t go rent a glider. I wasn’t a natural pilot despite my love of aircraft, sadly.

A real shame. I never even got that far. Thought about it so often, even went up with a friend to see, but never made that commitment. Kids and money being the major factors!
